This temple is believed to be the abode of Lord Shiva, and its history intertwines with the Ramayana. According to legend, Lord Rama prayed here for forgiveness after defeating Ravana, who was a Brahmin. The temple’s architecture and serene surroundings evoke a sense of divine presence. Next, we will visit the Kinniya Hot Water Wells, where natural hot springs bubble forth from the earth. These healing waters are said to have miraculous properties, and pilgrims come seeking relief from ailments. According to the Ramayana, Lord Rama himself blessed these wells during his time in Lanka. We will then check in to a hotel in Nilaveli or Trincomalee for dinner and an overnight stay.

After an early breakfast, check out from the hotel for a 7:30 AM departure. Our first site to visit for the day is the Ritigala Strict Nature Reserve. These drops, infused with healing properties, were meant to cure Lord Rama and Lakshmana. Next, we will explore the Polonnaruwa Ancient City, a UNESCO World Heritage Site which was the second capital of Sri Lanka. It flourished under the reign of King Parakramabahu I in the 12th century. Known as the “Lion Rock”, this ancient citadel was once a royal palace and a Buddhist monastery. But its roots extend even further back, to the Ramayana. Legend says that Sigiriya is one of places where Ravana held Princess Sita captive during her exile in Lanka. The imposing rock column, crowned by a palace, stands as a testament to human ingenuity and the echoes of a timeless epic. After returning from Sigiriya, we’ll head back to the hotel for relaxation.  Afternoon, we’ll visit Minneriya National Park for a 4×4 wildlife safari. Enroute we will stop at Dunuvila Lake where Lord Rama  fired the deadly Brahmastra, the primary weapon of the god Brahma, at Ravana.  Then we will stop at viewpoint of  Yahangala, a rocky sentinel in the Knuckles Mountain Range. Legend has it that this is where King Ravana rested after he was struck by Brahmastra in his final battle with Lord Rama. We continue to Seetha Kotuwa, nestled in Gurulupotha, is a significant site from the Ramayana. Princess Sita was allegedly held captive here by King Ravana. The lush surroundings, waterfall, and meandering stream give it the name “Sitha Kotuwa” or “Sita fort.” In this sacred place, Princess Sita endured captivity, and Ravana’s queen Maharani Mandodari recognized her divine nature. Mandodari warned Ravana to return Princess Sita to Lord Rama, lest divine wrath befall Lanka. Footprints of Lord Hanuman near the river add to the mystique, symbolizing his ability to transform size. Gurulupotha is also believed to be Ravana’s aircraft workshop, where he built various airplanes, including the famous Pushpaka Vimana, described in the Ramayana.
